Despite the backlashes that have trailed the emergence of same faith ticket by the All Progressives Congress (APC,) a group, the Christian Ministries Welfare Initiative (CMWI) and other affiliates, have resolved to support the ruling party’s flag bearer, Bola Tinubu to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in next year’s election.
This is coming days after Bishop Stephen Adegbite, the chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Lagos State Chapter declared support for the former governor of Lagos State.
HotNewsInNaija gathered that the group, led by Superintendent Apostle Aderemi Adebiyi, said: “It was high time Christians shifted their focus away from the same-faith ticket.”
He said if that was allowed to stay, it might be injurious to mankind. Adebiyi spoke during the press conference to formally declare their support for the Tinubu/Shettima ticket.
Adebiyi, who recalled and admitted that the ticket was perceived as unfavourable to the Christian community, said the religious group decided to take a decision of faith after consultations.
He said: “We are taking a decision of faith and conviction that will define us as true leaders of different denominations in the Christian community.
“It’s obvious that the APC Muslim-Muslim ticket has generated a lot of backlashes and debates within Christian families. With all sincerity of purpose, the ticket is perceived as unfavourable to the Christians.
“Many Christians have gotten used to the conventional pairing of the presidential ticket between Christians and Muslims. Now, they perceive this as a departure from the norm, hence, they see it as a setback.”
He charged Christians to seek Divine intervention in the forth-coming elections.
In the same vein, the group’s Chief of Staff, Pastor Ayorinde Adedayo, said their endorsement of Tinubu reaffirmed their commitment to being a non-sentimental religion.
“We don’t have to keep using this as a basis to determine our next President. Muslims are human beings like us. We are praying to the same God,” he said.
