DSS Declares Sunday Igboho Wanted, Confirms Attack On His House.

The Department of State Services, DSS, has declared the Yoruba Traditionalist and activist, Oloye Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, wanted following his escape when they attacked his residence in the Soka area in Ibadan, Oyo State.

This was made known in a statement released by the DSS spokesman, Peter Afunanya on Thursday night.

Peter Afunanya disclosed that the security agency recovered many illegal arms from Igboho’s house, including seven AK-47 rifles and thousands of ammunition.

Hotnewsinnaija also gathered that the agency paraded 13 followers of the Yoruba traditionalist, who, during the attack on Thursday morning, confronted and exchanged bullets with the DSS operatives.

The Yoruba activist who had been agitating for the creation of Yoruba Nation had planned to hold a rally in Lagos on Saturday to catalyse separatist objectives before his residence was attacked.

The DSS spokesman disclosed that its operatives killed two people at Igboho’s house when they were confronted in a gun duel by the Yoruba youth leader’s supporters during the operation.

According to Afunanya, the raid was based on intelligence that Sunday Igboho “had stockpiled arms in the place”.

In his statement:

“On approach to the residence, the team came under heavy gun attack by nine men, suspected to be Igboho’s guards. Six of them were armed with AK-47 guns and three others with pump-action rifles.”

Afunanya gives the details of the operation, noting that during the bullet exchange, two of Igboho’s men were killed, one injured and was taken to the hospital for medical treatment, while the rest was subdued and arrested.

“In the course of the exchange, two of Igboho’s armed men were gunned down while the rest were subdued and arrested. Only one operative who was shot by the assailants on his right hand sustained injury. He has, however, received medical attention and is very stable,” he added.

He stressed that the DSS team searched the house subsequently and recovered many exhibits like arms, ammunition, charms, foreign currency notes, laptops, among other items.

Afunanya stressed further that aside from items recovered from the building, about 13 suspects which contains 12 males and one female were nabbed and took to DSS custody in Abuja.

Speaking further, the DSS spokesman disclosed that Igboho and his supporters, in the guise of campaigning for independence, have become well-armed and determined to undermine government order, adding that arrests and seizures are, have no doubt, confirmed a grand plan by Igboho and his cohorts to wage a violent insurrection against the Nigerian state.

He further disclosed that Sunday Igboho was able to escape arrest due to his armed men that engaged in a gun duel with the DSS officers which lasted for an hour, but added that no matter how far he can run, the law will surely catch up with him.

“The gun duel, which lasted for an hour, offered Igboho the chance to escape. Sunday Adeyemo, a.k.a., Sunday Igboho, is now on the run. Igboho may run as far as he can. He may hide as long as he wants.

“He might have attacked security operatives as his strength carried him, but this will be the end of his shenanigans. Soon, he will not have a hiding place. His strength will sure fail him, and the law will catch up with him. The law may be slow. But it will be steady,” he added.

He consequently, advised Sunday Igboho to surrender himself to the nearest security agency, adding that those who are in support of him may appeal or advise him to do the needful.

“He should surrender himself to the appropriate authorities. He or anyone can never be above the law. Meanwhile, those arrested will be charged accordingly,” he said.
