Residents Protesting in Calabar, Cross River State, have reportedly witnessed an attack from men of Nigerian Police today.
Some protesters who were demanding an improvement in the way they being ruled in Nigeria have reportedly being fired tear gas on Saturday morning in Calabar by Police.
The Cable gathered that the incident happened at Rabbana roundabout and Atekong junction this morning.
Nigerians that supposed to be celebrating Democracy Day today in the country, have stormed major cities nationwide protesting, demanding better governance, a secured environment and improved living condition for citizens.
The peaceful protesters, in the state, carried only placards with inscriptions such as, ‘Ayade pay owed salaries and pensions’, ‘Ayade change your style of governance’, while some of them also carried ‘Revolution Now’ placards, asking President Muhammadu Buhari to resign from office.
Police officers present at the scene that suppose to be protecting the protesters fired tear gas at them, after their attempt to disperse the rally weren’t successful.
One of the protesters, Dominic Akan, while speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, said that the rally was going on peacefully when the police attacked them.

“We don’t know why security operatives used tear gas on us during the peaceful protest. We are protesting against bad governance and things that have gone bad in the state.
Speaking further, Akan reiterated some of the things they need their governor, Ben Ayade, to address urgently, like none payment of their parents owed pensions and gratuities and rehabilitation of their bad roads.
