An Honorable Member of the House of Representatives of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP), Rimamnde Shawulu, has called for the resignation of their party’s National Chairman, Uche Secondus and all the members of their National Working Committee, in order for the party to come back to life.
It has been a period of crisis for the major opposition party as they are battling the massive defection of their strong members which has been portraying the PDP as a looser of the forthcoming General Election, even before the election.
The Honourable representing Donga/Takum/Wusa federal constituency of Taraba State also charged all members of the National Working Committee of the PDP to resign from their position due to the recent massive defection of the party’s strong members.
Reports have it that at least eight PDP federal lawmakers have decamped from the major opposition party to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) within the past eight days.
It was also gathered, about a fortnight ago, that the senator representing Delta North, Peter Nwaoboshi, dumped the PDP for the APC, while two of the party’s governors, Ben Ayade of Cross River and Bello Matawalle of Zamfara, also defected to the ruling party in May and June, respectively.
Honourable Shawulu, in a letter dated July 6, 2021, and addressed to Secondus, condemned the present party National chairman, saying the party is in a worse situation than when Adamu Muazu, former chairman of the party, was in charge.
The lawmaker narrated in the letter that Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State praised enthusiastically Secondus’ virtues of tenacity and commitment to the PDP and the party’s hope, then, to win the 2019 elections, when he was seeking for the support of members of the House of Representatives for his candidacy of the National Chairmanship of the Party.
He stressed that Wike packaged Secondus for them as the most experienced and loyal person who would give everything to the success of the party. He added:
“Indeed, and according to him, the relentless pursuit of success would be the guide of your actions.”
Shawalu put it to Secondus that the event of the last two years in the PDP calls for sober reflection and sacrifices by both the leadership and membership of the party and the PDP National chairman must resign for the party to come back to life and be seen as a better alternative to the ruinous APC.
“Then, will its doors be seen to be open to the millions that want to come into the party to mobilise Nigerians to take back the country from the iniquitous forces that have seized it by the jugular,” he added.
The lawmaker flashed back, noted that the obvious wish of the opinion of party members and leaders when Dr Adamu Muazu resigned as Chairman of the party was to resolve the crisis the party was battling, which your good self took over to enable the party to regain momentum.
But presently, without discounting the efforts and sacrifices you have made, it is clear that the PDP is in far worse circumstances than when Alhaji Adamu Muazu fled the scene.
Stressing further, Shawalu said in his letter: “Parents sacrifice for their children. Leaders sacrifice for the good of the people they lead. History is replete with examples of leaders who have had to leave their positions so that the people they lead will survive or prosper. In several of our cultures in Nigeria, leaders who lead their people into disastrous circumstances commit suicide!
He added that history demands from the chairman to do the needful, noting that it is not for him to die but to live for the party by surrendering leadership, to enable earnest reconciliation and repositioning of the party.

He stated categorically, in his letter, that the chairman and indeed, all members of the National Working Committee need to make such a sacrifice in the interest of the PDP, Nigeria and to rescue the country’s democracy from the damages it’s suffering from the ruinous APC.
The lawmaker asked Secondus to show leadership today, in the interest of the party, his good name, and the future of Nigeria to resign immediately as the PDP National Chairman.
