The Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly set to depart Nigeria for Paris, France tomorrow on a 4 days official visit to attend the African Finance Summit.
Garba Shehu, the official spokesperson and SSA to President Buhari on Media and Publicity disclosed this in a series of tweets posted today via his official verified Twitter handle @GarShehu.
The presidential aide revealed in his statement that Buhari’s 4-day visit to Paris is mainly meant for the president to attend the African Finance Summit – a program that will be focused on reviewing the African economy, following challenges resulted from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Garba disclosed that the Summit is going to be hosted by President Emmanuel Macron and it will draw major stakeholders in the global financial institutions and some Heads of Government, who will, collectively, discuss external funding and debt treatment for Africa, and private sector reforms.
Revealing the president’s schedule during the visit, Garba said President Buhari will hold a meeting with the French President to discuss growing security threats in the Sahel and Lake Chad region, political relations, economic ties, climate change and partnership in buoying the health sector, particularly in checking the spread of Covid-19, with more research and vaccines.
Speaking further, the presidential aide disclosed that the president will also engage some key personalities in the oil and gas sector and other sectors that can help in driving the growth of the country’s economy.
“Before returning to Nigeria, President Buhari will receive some key players in the oil and gas sector, engineering and telecommunications, European Council and European Union Representative for Foreign and Security Policy and Commission, and members of the Nigerian community,” he said.
It was also revealed that the president won’t make the trip to Paris alone as he will be accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Shamsuna Ahmed, Minister of Trade and Investment, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo, and Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire.
The trip will also engage the National Security Adviser, Maj. Gen. Babagana Mohammed Monguno (rtd) and Director General of National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Amb. Ahmed Rufai Abubakar.
