Gunmen have allegedly kidnapped many travellers after three vehicles conveying them along the Emuoha area of the East-West road in Rivers State were hijacked.
This is coming days after passengers kidnapped along the kalabari-Emuoha road were released by the abductors.
In the latest incident, it was learnt that the gunmen diverted the passengers to a nearby forest in the area at about 8 pm on Wednesday, following an ambush in Evekwu -Rumuodogo communities in Emuoha.
According to a member of the local vigilante group in the area who confirmed the incident, the vehicles were travelling to Port Harcourt from various destinations including a commercial bus filled with passengers, a Siena carrying goods and another private vehicle.
As of the time of filing this report, the actual number of occupants in the vehicles could not be ascertained, but the source said all the travellers were moved into the nearby forest.
The vigilante noted that he alongside some of his colleagues managed to trace the footsteps of the captives after the incident occurred, but could not go further for fear of the unknown.
Reports have it that some policemen from the Rumuji division visited the scene on Thursday morning and when the state police command’s acting spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, was contacted concerning the incident, she said she was yet to get the report.
