The Senate has reportedly rejected the confirmation of an aide to President Buhari, Lauretta Onochie, as a National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

This development was sequel to the consideration of the report of the Senate Committee on INEC which had the responsibility of screening Ms Onochie and the other nominees.

Kabiru Gaya, The Chairman of the Committee on INEC, while declaring the resolution of the Committee, noted, in his report, that Onochie did not satisfy the provisions of the Federal Character Principles, and also added that there is currently a serving commissioner from Delta State, where she hails from.
