A former Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Shehu Sani, has implored the National Assembly to take action on the ban the Nigerian Government laid on the usage of Twitter in the country.
Shehu Sani disclosed this in a tweet posted on his official Twitter handle, @ShehuSani.
The former senator, who described the ban as inappropriate, has called on the National Assembly to move a motion for the reversal of the ban because the ban is nothing but denial of fundamental rights.
He stated that the government does not have the right to forcefully dictate for the people of the country, where to speak or not to speak, noting that power needs to be guided by the constitution it derived its legitimacy.
Several reactions have trailed the suspension of the microblogging and social media platform by the federal government of Nigeria and the latest of it is that of a former senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani.
In his tweet, he stated that the National Assembly should have the conscience and the courage to debate the Twitter ban and move the motion for the ban’s reversal.
