Nigerian Government, following its suspension of the microblogging and social media platform, Twitter, has disclosed condition needed to be followed before the social medium can return to its normal operations in Nigeria.

President Buhari’s administration laid a ban on the usage of Twitter in Nigeria after the president’s tweet was pulled down by the social medium moderators for violating its rules and regulations.

Following the suspension, there have been several acrimonious debates everywhere about the injustice and justification of the ban and the government has, however, given the condition for the ban to be lifted.

FG, through Geoffery Onyeama, the Minister for Foreign Affairs has revealed on Monday, while he was having a meeting with envoys from UK, US and other countries, that for the usage of Twitter to be restored in the country it must be used ‘responsibly’.

In his words:

“The condition would be responsible use of the social media and that has to be it.”

The minister disclosed that the government are not saying that Twitter is threatening the country or any such thing, but they take the measure to stop the misusage of the microblogging and social media platform.

“Why we have taken this measure is to stop them to be used as platforms for destabilisation and facilitation of criminality or encouragement of criminalities”, he said

Speaking further, Geoffery also added that the Nigerian Government would use the Forum of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) to demand global support in fighting terrorism in the country and to increase Foreign Direct Investments (FDI).
