The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has suspended its strike after 8 months of industrial action and all Nigerian Universities are expected to reopen on Monday, the 17th of October 2022.

HotNewsInNaija gathered that the strike was called off after a late night crucial meeting which lasted for six hours, starting at 7pm yesterday, october 13, 2022.

Recall that days ago, ASUU President, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke assured that following the intervention of the speaker House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, the industrial strike action would be suspended within the week.

The ASUU meeting which held overnight involved the leadership of the union who made the final decision following the voting across state chapters where the majority opted for an end to the industrial action.

The strike comes to an end after the back and forth between the minister of labour and employment Chris Ngige including a particular meeting which involved the minister and the ASUU president almost coming to blows.

The minister has also granted registration to two new unions, a move many have described as targeted at weakening ASUU.

With the end of the strike, universities are expected to announce the resumption of academic activities at the different stages of each respective institution.

On 14th of February, the academic body of Nigerian Universities had embarked on a strike which lasted for 8 months.
