La Liga: Memphis, Torres Inspire Barcelona’s 1-2 Comeback Victory Over Elche

The Football Club Barcelona had a hard-fought victory against Elche as the club came from a goal down to claim a 1-2 victory in their Sunday evening La Liga Santander tier.

The Catalans started the game with full confidence having won their last three consecutive matches but Elche proved to be a stronger side as they netted Barcelona FC a minute before the referee blew the halftime whistle.

Barcelona attackers that have proven to be fearless this year with the help of their new signings found it difficult to break Elche’s defence until late minutes of the second half.

It took the Barcelona coach, Xavi Hernandez a tactical substitute before his team was able to turn the game on its head. The coach in his tactical input into the game brought in Ferran Torres for Gavi, he would then go on to score the equalizer goal for the Catalans in the 60th minute of the game.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who was on scoring streaks, scoring 5 goals in four matches for the catalan started the game but he found it difficult to find the back of the net in the game.

He was, however, removed and replaced by Memphis Depay who converted Barcelona’s penalty to seal the victory for the Spanish giant in 84th minutes.

Hotnewsinnaija sport analysts gathered that during the game, Barcelona created 8 big chances, but missed 6 of them. Out of which 3 was missed by Torres, 2 by Frankie de Jong, while one was missed by Ousmane Dembele. The remaining two which eventually completed the comeback was converted by Torres and Memphis.

Speaking during the post match interview Feran Torres said:

“We didn’t lose patience and kept the ball. We ended up playing how we wanted. With Xavi we have made a big change. We’re playing the style he wants.”

“I’m here to give everything for Barça.”

“It was a tough game at a tough stadium, but we’re happy to win.”

Today’s victory has extended Barcelona winning streak to 3 in La Liga Santander.

Barcelona are also unbeaten in their last 10 away La Liga games, their longest streak since 2018/2019.
