The chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig-Gen Buba Marwa, has written a letter to the Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Adamu, asking that the officials of the agency be permitted to conduct a drug test for all the party’s aspirants.
According to Vanguard, the NDLEA, on Wednesday, April 27, released the latest requirement, stating that all the Senatorial, governorship and presidential aspirants on the platform of the APC are to undergo drug integrity tests before the scheduled primaries.
In the letter, the Nigerian anti-graft agency’s boss noted that the aim of running the drug test is to ensure that anyone vying for high public positions in the country does not use budgetary allocations to purchase illicit substances instead of providing needed services for Nigerians.
With this, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, Rotimi Amaechi, Ben Ayade and every other person aspiring for various elective positions under the ruling APC, before battling for tickets at the party’s primaries, will have to go through drug integrity tests.
The Nigerian anti-graft agency’s boss also assured that all other parties’ aspirants will go through the same tests. He added that when it is the turn of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other parties to conduct their party primaries, the same request will be made to their national chairmen.
He made this remark during a ceremony organised to issue awards of excellence to the best performing command and officers in the first quarter of 2022.
