Hamidu, a Hausa tea seller has reportedly been arrested after he allegedly killed one of his customers over N10 at Arepo, in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.

HotNewsInNaija gathered that Hamidu, in a quest to collect his balance from one Musa who bought a cup of tea at the rate of 50 Naira but paid 40 Naira, started a fight with the latter. It would later resort to violence and the suspect allegedly punched the customer in his chest and he fell on the ground.

Speaking with the newsmen, Olayiwola Ogunsolu, a leader of the Odua People’s Congress (New Era), disclosed that before the victim could get any help he has given up the ghost.

Ogunsolu noted that the incident happened last week Wednesday.

Narrating how they were able to know about the incident, the OPC leader stated that on Wednesday, when he and their operatives were at the Arepo under bridge area, they heard a noise around the Hausa community and they quickly went there to confirm what was going on. He added:

“On getting to the spot, we saw that someone had died and when we enquired what happened, we were told that the tea seller there killed him over his refusal to pay N50 for a cup of tea.

Ogundosu stressed that they immediately called the Warewa Police Station and when two policemen came from the station, the Hausa community resisted them and they had to call back the DPO of the Police Station who sent reinforcement and the suspect was eventually taken away.

Gathering from a relative of the deceased, who spoke on condition of anonymity, he noted that Musa was killed over N10. In his words:

“Musa went to buy a cup of tea but he had N40 instead of N50. This got the seller angry and they started fighting. The tea seller, who is not well known under the bridge here though some people said his name is Hamidu, punched Musa in the chest. He fell and died. Some of our people intervened. The police came and took the tea seller away.”

Also speaking about the incident, Abimbola Oyeyemi, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer stated that he will release a press statement about the ugly incident later.

As of the time of filing this report, he had yet to do so.
