Amid an ongoing faceoff between the Yorubas and Igbos in Lagos as a result of the just-concluded gubernatorial and house of assembly elections in the state, renowned media personality, IK Osakioduwa has come out to share his thoughts on the contentious issue.

Recall that on Saturday, March 18, 2023, social media platforms were awash with reports of acts of violence carried out on Igbos and other non-indigenes by political thugs at various polling units during the governorship election conducted in Lagos. The incidents have since snowballed into a case of ethnic division as some prominent Yorubas in the camp of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have warned Igbos to leave the state if they are not satisfied with how it is been governed by its owners.

Reacting to the brewing crisis during an interview on News Central TV’s ‘Breakfast Central’ program on Tuesday morning, Osakioduwa, who is a former Rhythm FM and Big Brother Naija host, argued that if Igbos and other non-Yorubas were to obey the wishes of those calling for them to leave Lagos, there would be nothing left in the state economically.

“There is a picture circulating online showing Mr. Jubril Gawat leading a procession or what may be a protest, and right beside him is a sign that says “My Lagos, Not Yours” and then he puts in small letters; “You are just here for your business.” If that isn’t bigotry, then I don’t know what else is. And Gawat happens to be the Senior Special Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on New Media! And if that is the posture of the APC, then it means they are endorsing bigotry, oppression, and suppression of a people.

Besides, if you take out all non-Yorubas and their business, if you take out the Tony Elumelus, and the Jim Ovias and you classify them all as Igbo and they take out their businesses from the state, what will be left about Lagos?”
