As the political pyrotechnics for 2023 Presidency continues, a nothern elder and former Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Abu Ibrahim, has said that both Vice-president Osinbajo and Governor Fayemi of Ekiti stand no chance against Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu in the contest to be President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2023.

Senator Ibrahim, who represented Katsina South Senatorial District and also a close confidant of both President Muhammadu Buhari and Bola Ahmed Tinubu, told Daily Trust on Sunday in an exclusive interview that all names being taunted around for the 2023 presidency in the South-West do not have the political wherewithal to confront Tinubu in a political contest, as they were all brought into political limelight by Tinubu.

While narrating how he linked Buhari with Tinubu in 2010 before the two later formed political alliance that brought about APC presidency, the Katsina-born politician highlighted that Asiwaju Tinubu brought Fayemi from Ghana and helped him become Ekiti State governor against more popular and politcally experinced aspirants of the time, and that he does not see him (Fayemi) standing a chance against Tinubu as far as 2023 presidency is concerned.

The northern elder also narrated how Tinubu single-handedly picked Osinbajo to be Vice-President in 2015 and also said Osinbajo wouldn’t dare to contest against Tinubu who made him politically.

Discussing on a wide range of issue on 2023 Presidency with Daily Trust, the former Katsina South Senator was asked if the reported presidential ambitions of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State would not affect the chances of Tinubu? He said, “It is normal, but the issue is: Can they stand Tinubu in the South-West? They can see what is coming up. I don’t want to start discussing this issue; it is a different topic.”

Speaking further, Senator Ibrahim said,“Fayemi, for example, knows very well that he is Tinubu’s boy. He was living in Ghana when Tinubu brought him. I once slept in his house in Accra.

“Tinubu brought Fayemi back to Nigeria. Above other leading contenders, he picked him to be the governor of Ekiti State. When we met at Bourdillon (Tinubu’s residence), he told me to thank my friend for him. He said Asiwaju even mobilised fund for him after nominating him to be governor.”

Ibrahim said that Fayemi won the governorship election the first time, but lost the second term to the opposition PDP without even winning his ward, after which he was made a minister. He noted further that when Fayemi was to go for his present tenure, he (Ibrahim) pleaded with President Buhari to help Fayemi speak with Asiwaju so as to assist in delivering Ekiti for him, and which the President did.

And on Osinbajo, he said, “The vice president was his commissioner for justice. He never lobbied for the office; he just picked and gave him that position. I have discussed with the vice president many times. I went to his house and office and we discussed the party and everything, including his relationship with Asiwaju. I know how he felt or how he feels about their relationship. He respects Tinubu so much that I feel he may not be able to contest against him.”

Senator Ibrahim stressed that he is sure that President Buhari will support Asiwaju Tinubu to actualise his dream to become president, because Buhari is a disciplined and straight-forward person who will always pay Tinubu for the part he played for his emergence in 2015.

Ibrahim noted that if President Buhari refuses to support Tinubu, the effect will tell on all politicians from the North-West in the future, as people will now feel they are not trustworthy in the region, and this will make people avoid going into any agreement from them in the future

Senator Ibrahim also stated that he knows Tinubu very well and that he has no doubt he is healthy enough to function effectively as the president, noting that he would have advised him to nominate another person if he is so convinced that he (Tinubu) is not healthy enough.

On how he feels Tinubu will perform when he becomes president, the former senator said that Tinubu represents the Nigerian unity, because looking at his background, he was known for bringing people from different zones of Nigeria in his cabinet to represent Lagos, noting that nothing could have shown him more as a true Nationalist.
