It Defies All Logic Why Nigeria Still Import Food – Shehu Sanni

A human right activist and former Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria representing Kaduna Central Senatorial district , Shehu Sani, has lamented the persistent importation of food by Nigeria in spite of huge and gigantic allocations always earmarked for Agriculture in its budget, calling it outrightly unexplainable.

Shehu Sani shared this sentiment in a tweet he posted on his verified Twitter handle @ShehuSani, saying that the persistent importation of food by the Nation defies all reasons and logic, if we consider the gigantic resources being put into Agriculture in Nigeria, noting that such huge figures being displayed on paper should have been enough to produce adequate food for the Nation, without having to resort into further importation of food from another country.

In his word, the former Senator tweets:

The Nation’s apex Bank spent N1.7 trillion in four years for Agriculture, the Nation will borrow €995 million Euro from Brazil for Agriculture, all states have Agric ministries with Budgets, all Local councils have Agric dept with budgets; And the Nation is still importing food.

Considering these figures provided by Shehu Sani, do you also share his sentiment that Nigeria should have been independent in food production?  Could something have happened to all the finances along the line? This and other pertinent questions need be asked.

What is your opinion about it? Pls share and comment.
