Dapo Abiodun

The Ogun State Government has debunked the claim that the State Governor, Dapo Abiodun issued a statement as a reaction to what Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu said when he visited the All Progressives Congress (APC) delegates in the state.

The clarification was made, in a press release, signed and published by Abdulwaheed Odusile, the Ogun state Hon. Commissioner for Information and Strategy.

Bola Tinubu, during his visit, said the incumbent governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun wouldn’t have become a governor if not because of his support.

However, different media outlets have speculated that following Asiwaju’s statement, Mr Dapo Abiodun has given a savage response to the statement uttered by the National leader of the ruling APC.

The state government, in the press release, disclosed that Gov. Dapo Abiodun has never meant to respond to Tinubu’s statement.

It was declared that the tweet posted by Mr Dapo Abiodun on Friday was an extract to re emphasize the governor’s comments to party faithfuls and appointees on May 29 during the celebration of his third year in office, which also coincided with his 62nd birthday.

The statement reads:

The attention of the Ogun State Government has been drawn to comments purportedly made by Governor Dapo Abiodun in reaction to statements made by the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and presidential hopeful, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, during his recent visit to party delegates in the state.

For the avoidance of doubt, the tweet released this morning was an extract to re emphasize the comments of Governor Abiodun to party faithfuls and appointees on May 29 during the celebration of his third year in office, which also coincided with his 62nd birthday.

The comments could, therefore, not have been a response to comments by Asiwaju Tinubu whose visits to Abeokuta came five days later.

While Governor Abiodun appreciates the media, including online platforms, as partners in progress with Government, he enjoins media practitioners to always report the truth at all times and refrain from giving vent to fake news, distortions and misinterpretations.

Signed

Abdulwaheed Odusile

Hon. Commissioner for Information and Strategy
