The Lagos State Police Command has announced the arrest of one Inspector Dele Reuben who was captured on camera harassing a motorist over tinted glasses permit.

This was disclosed by the state Police Public Relation Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement released via their official Twitter handle.

It should be recalled that the Nigerian Police recently announced the suspension of the issuance of tinted glasses permits, and urged the general public to report any Police officer who tries to extort them in that regard.

However, a bad egg in the midst of the hardworking and truthful police officers in Lagos police command was caught in the video harassing and extorting a motorist, and thus demanding the suspended tinted glasses permit in order to extort money from him. The motorist, a smart one indeed, was able to capture him in the process with a camera, and then post it on social media.

Before long, the video went viral and thus led to public outrage on social media, as Nigerians started dragging the Nigerian Police, accusing them of extorting and bullying their country’s citizens whom they are supposed to be protecting.

This caught the attention of the superior officers who then swung into action to arrested the culprit. As at the time of filing this report, the erring officer is currently being subjected to disciplinary procedures at the State’s Police Headquarters, Ikeja.

According to the Lagos Police PRO in a statement made to the general public on Friday and published on the official Twitter handle of the Lagos Police Command, the officer involved in the dastard extotioning of the motorist in the viral video was said to have been apprehended.
