An Osun State High Court sitting in Ijebu-Jesa has affirmed Dotun Babayemi as the valid candidate of the oppostion People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming Osun State gubernatorial election.

The validation of Dotun Babayemi implies that another factional candidate in the person of Ademola Adeleke, porpularly known as Dancing Senator, is now in a big mess and will have to rely on the revalidation of Babayemi’s candidacy by another court of higher authority to stand a chance of representing the PDP in the forthcoming election.

In a suit No:HIJ/6/2022 instituted by one Adedoyin and 29 others against the PDP and the Independent National Electoral Commision (INEC), Justice Adeyinka Aderibigbe held that the delegates that voted for Babayemi were the authentic delegates recognized by law, and thus validates his candidacy

Rolling out the judgement, Justice Adeyinka held that the delegates that voted for Dotun Babayemi did so in compliance with the court judgement of 22nd November, 2021 and Order of Mandatory Interim Injunction of 3rd March, 2022, affirming the 215 Wards Executive Officers elected then as the authentic and authorized Ward Executive Officers permitted to vote as delegates at the party governorship primaries.

On this ground, the justice granted Order of Mandatory Interim Injunction restricting the defendants/respondents from recognizing any other governorship primaries of the PDP in Osun State aside the one where Dotun Babayemi emerges as the winner.

Justice Aderibigbe thereby adjourned to Wednesday,16th March, 2022, for further hearing.
