Former Nigerian vice president and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has expressed skepticism over a recent report that President Muhammadu Buhari and President-elect Bola Tinubu, both of the All Progressives Congress (APC), exchanged Eid greetings over the phone.
The former Nigerian vice president through a statement by his spokesperson, Daniel Bwala requested proof of such a conversation.
According to a statement from Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, on Friday, President Buhari spoke with President-elect Tinubu on the phone to celebrate Eid el-Fitr.
The presidential spokesman said, “Both leaders thanked God Almighty for seeing this day and prayed for the stability and the wellbeing of the nation.”
He also said, “President Buhari expressed his readiness to welcome Asiwaju Tinubu to the State House as President on May 29th.”
However, in a tweet on Saturday, Bwala questioned the legitimacy of the phone call.
He tweeted: “Release the audio conversation as a proof. Anyway our constitution does not envision you welcoming him to the state house because after the swearing in at eagle square, the motorcade would take you to the airport, whilst he will now resume at his new house.”
It should be noted that President-elect Tinubu is set to take office on May 29, succeeding President Buhari.
