The defeat of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Kano State on Monday morning has ignited speculations of a possible return of the 14th Emir of Kano, HRH Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi to the throne of Kano.

Recall that Emir Sanusi was dethroned by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje as the emir of Kano on March 9, 2020 following a bitter relationship.

Sanusi had from time to time expressed disgust at the attitude of those in power towards governance and regularly critiicised authorities at the federal and state levels for not meeting the basic needs of the people.

Before the dethronement, Governor Ganduje had in December, 2019 signed a bill midwifed by his government which carved out four new emirates, Gaya, Rano, Karaye and Bichi out of Kano.

Three months later, Ganduje banished Emir out of Kano with the dethronement order in March 2020.

Following the sack of the APC in the governorship election and the return of the Senator Rabiu Kwakwanso led NNPP to government in Kano there were whispers in some circles of the possible reinstatement of the 14th emir to the throne.

A senior political enthusiast in Kano, however, dismissed the idea of the return of Emir Sanusi to the Kano emirate saying: “We have passed through that stage and Emir Sanusi cannot be returned. It is not in anyone’s interest to reverse what has already been done and nobody is seriously talking about that now,” the source said.
