The new Chief Executive Officer of Twitter, Elon Musk has been asked to step down as the company head in an overnight poll conducted on the microblogging and social network platform.
In an opinion poll published by Elon Musk himself, it was gathered that 57.5 per cent of Twitter users (Tweeps) want him to step down from his CEO role while only 42.5 per cent want him to remain as the company head.
On Monday, Mr Musk had posed a question to users, asking them to vote in a poll that would determine whether he would remain as Twitter CEO or relinquish his role.
“Should I step down as head of Twitter? I will abide by the results of this poll,” asked Mr Musk in the early hours of Monday.
A total of 17.5 million votes were cast after the poll was over, with 57 per cent of respondents voting yes for him to step down, while 43 per cent chose to keep him as Twitter CEO.
Specifically, 17,502,391 million votes were cast but Mr Musk had yet to tweet his final decision whether he would be resigning or not.
The polls come on the heels of Twitter’s announcement that it would no longer permit the free marketing of other social media networks on the app.
The official Twitter Support account released updated guidelines on Sunday, revealing that the social media site will be restricting accounts that post links to competing social media sites including Facebook, Instagram, and Donald Trump’s Truth Social.
