The Nigerian Police seems to have moved on from the suspension of Abba Kyari over his alleged connection with an international fraudster, Ramon Abbas, popularly known as Hushpuppi, as the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, has named a new successor to take over the post of Kyari as the Head of the Police Intelligence Response Team.
The IGP approved the posting of Tunji Disu, who is also a Deputy Commissioner of Police, on Monday as the new Head of the police IRT.
This was contained in a statement released on Monday by the Police spokesman, Frank Mba, titled, ‘IGP appoints DCP Tunji Disu as Head, Police Intelligence Response Team.’
The statement noted that the new appointment takes effect immediately, while also charging the new appointee to demonstrate professional capability and competence in the cause of piloting the affairs of the unit.
Stating further, the Inspector General of Police assured all Nigeria’s citizens of unwavering professional conduct by the Intelligence Response Team. He also promised that IRT will remain focused and discharge its duties in line with the national acceptable standards and international best practices.
The appointment of DCP Tunji Disu was sequel to the police management’s decision to fill the leadership gap the suspension of Abba Kyari over fraud related crimes might have created within the ranks of the IRT. And Tunji Disu, being an equally sound police officer, was drafted into the position.
Prior to his appointment, Disu, was a former Commander of the Rapid Response Squad Lagos State, and the DCP in charge of the Department of Operations, Force Headquarters, Abuja. He is a very fine police officer with good track records of competence and performance.
He had previously served at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Rivers State as the Deputy Head of the unit, and was also a former Commander of the Nigeria Police Contingent to the African Union Peace Keeping Mission in Dafur, Sudan.
Disu holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the Lagos State University and a Masters Degree in Public Administration from the Adekunle Ajasin University, Ondo State. He holds many professional qualifications also.
