President Buhari Orders Ministers, Other FEC Members Who’ve Picked Nomination Forms To Resign, Ngige Reacts

Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, has, on Wednesday, told every member of the Federal Executive Council, FEC, who have declared their intentions to contest elective offices in 2023 general elections to resign on or before May 16.

This was disclosed by Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture, while speaking with journalists at the end of FEC meeting presided over by President Buhari.

In his statement, Mr Mohammed noted that he did not have the mandate to talk on the fate of other political appointees who are also vying for elective positions, but are not members of the cabinet.

This development is going to affect the like of Rotimi Amaechi, Minister of Transportation, Niger Delta Minister, Godswill Akpabio, Chris Ngige, Labour and Employment, Ogbonnaya Aoanu, Science, Technology and Innovation, and Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, who have joined the presidential race on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Others are Abubakar Malami, the Minister for Justice and Attorney General, Minister of State Mines and Steel, Uche Ogar, who is running for governorship position in Kebbi and Abia State respectively, the Minister of Women Affairs, Paulline Tallen, who declared her ambition to contest for the senatorial seat in Plateau State.

The Vanguard reported that, Senator Chris Ngige, the Minister of Labour and Employment, while reacting to the development, stated that he was not in a hurry to resign from his appointment as he has to consult with President Buhari and his constituents before tendering any resignation letter.

In his words:

“I have no reaction for now because the President said if anyone wants clarifications, the person should meet him.

“So I have to consult him and consult my constituents, Anambra state because I am holding the office for the government and my constituents.”
