An American rapper, Olubowale Victor Akintimehin, professionally known as Wale has berated Grammy Awards organisers for snubbing Nigerian Afrobeats superstar, Wizkid at the 64th edition of the prestigious award.

Wale who sees a song released by Wizkid titled “Essence” as the potential winner of the Grammy Award, has taken to social media to criticize the award organizers, saying “Essence should have multiple Grammys.”

The Nigerian Afro hip-hop singer was nominated in two categories of the prestigious awards, the Best Global Music Album category with his “Made In Lagos” album and the Best Global Music Performance category Essence, but lost both.

The Best Global Music Performance was won by Arooj Aftab, Mohabbat, while Beninese singer and songwriter Angelique Kidjo, Mother Nature, won the Best Global Music Album category.

His snub has led to outrage on social media as many people berated the organizers of the awards and questioned the criteria they used to choose the winner for the award’s categories.

They believed that Wizkid’s Made In Lagos Album which has broken many records and attained some feats over the year deserved to win an award at the 64th edition of the Grammy Awards.

Among those who condemned the Nigerian singer’s snub is Wale, the American rapper who claimed via a tweet posted on his official verified Twitter handle that Wizkid’s hit song, Essence deserves multiple Grammy Awards.
