A 13-year-old mentally challenged girl has allegedly been raped by a Nigerian Prison official, M. C. Bello in Adamawa State.
It was reported that the little girl was coaxed with N50 by the prison officer before taking her into his apartment. His apartment is located near the Yolde-Pate correctional centre in the Yola South Local Government Area of the state.
New York based News Outlet, Sahara Reporters reported that Bello committed the crime on the 1st of February, 2022.
The media outlet gathered from the Adamawa State Police command, DSP Suleiman Nguroje, that Bello is presently in their custody in connection with the crime. He said:
“Investigation into the matter has commenced.”
It was also gathered that Madam Laila, the Human Rights Desk Officer at the Centre for Women and Adolescent Empowerment, disclosed that the victim had been subjected to medical examination and it was confirmed that the little girl had been sexually abused.
In her words:
“We’ll follow up the case to its logical conclusion so that the little girl gets justice. The survivor has undergone a medical examination, which confirms penetration.”
She further disclosed that the suspect has confessed to the crime. She added that he, however, pleaded for leniency, attributing his action to the devil’s influence.
