One of the signatories to the All Progressives Congress’s 2013 merger, Alhaji Buba Galadima has revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari agreed to support Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to become the Nigerian president after him.
Mr Galadima disclosed this in an interview with Eniola Akinkuotu and Tope Omogboladun, revealing the truth about the agreements between Major General Buhari (retd.) and former Lagos State Governor.
In the interview, Mr Galadima was asked that as a former associate of President Muhammadu Buhari, do you believe the President would force his nominee or allow all hopefuls to compete in the APC Presidential primary?
Responding Mr Galadima said;
You don’t have to be a prophet or a soothsayer to see that the President would anoint anybody he wants as the APC’s presidential candidate. However, one must consider whether he could do so with some respect and propriety.
with a sense of deference to the bulk of his party’s members’ viewpoints No, I do not believe so. As a result, anyone he chooses will lead to infighting, arguing, and a slew of anti-party acts. This will be a problem for the APC.
He was also asked if there ever any understanding that Tinubu would succeed Buhari as one of the APC’s founding members?
There was an understanding because Tinubu sat down with another person and the President sat down with another person, and according to the information we received, they agreed that if Tinubu helped Buhari win, he would become Vice-President. When that was not possible, they contacted him and requested his assistance due to the time constraints.
They said that whatever he does, he should deploy and ensure that Buhari becomes President, and that when he (Buhari) leaves, he would do all in his ability to help Tinubu win the election. It appears that they are now reneging on their agreement. And whether written or unwritten, a pledge is a promise because God knows your heart if you can pervert it. And treason is never acceptable to God. When you’re dedicated, you have to swallow whatever comes your way, whether it’s sour, bitter, or tasty.
Now it appears that they want to renege on their agreement with Tinubu. This is why Tinubu is enraged, and I understand his rage given what has happened to him, which I told him a long time ago. I informed him of his impending doom. And everything I anticipated those years is now coming to pass. My hope for him (Tinubu) is that he will emerge healthy and unharmed from this ordeal. That is my most fervent want for him.
But it appears that he has already been compromised. The only way he can gain traction is if the party agrees to have primary elections. If the party agrees to hold primaries, I have no doubt Tinubu will win, but he is out of the running for the consensus they want to embrace.
Lastly, Alhaji Galadima was asked why he has the believe that Kwankwaso will win despite the fact that the NNPP lacks even a single governor?
You don’t believe in yourself because you don’t believe in yourself. You have doubts about your ability to organize and network Nigerians. For the second time, Kwankwaso was elected governor of Kano State without the support of a councillor, a local government chairman, or a member of the state or national legislature. Without the presence of any elected officials. In 2011, he ran for governor of Kano and won the election. That is something we can do in Nigeria
