The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah has reacted to the statement made by President Tinubu about removing fuel subsidies, saying history may decide to judge him wisely if he decides to bite the bullet now.
The outspoken Bishop stated this while speaking during an interview with Arise TV, adding that whatever decision the president took in making the ‘fuel subsidy’ statement, he’s going to live with the consequences.
Bishop Kukah further noted that the mistake made by President Buhari during his administration was that he left incompetent people to sit in the same seat for eight years without changing them.
According to him, “to some extent, a president cannot make a mistake; what I mean is, and this was the sad thing about Buhari’s administration. I’m sorry to say that it’s not possible that you have people for 8 years sitting on the same seat; nobody shifts on his seat; nothing happened even though things were not working; it says a lot. So the point is that whatever decision he might have taken, whether he decided to include it in the speech or it wasn’t in the speech or somebody didn’t want it in the speech, but he wanted it in the speech, he has to live with the consequences, and at another level, maybe history will judge him wisely that he decided to bite the bullet now.”
