Brentford Football Club will have a high hill to climb before they’ll be able to secure a contract extension with the Danish midfielder, Christian Eriksen after Tottenham Hotspur showed their interest in bringing their former player back to the White Hart Lane.
The London club have a huge battle on their hand to convince the former Inter Milan midfielder to sign a new contract beyond the end of this season, HotNewsInNaija learnt, with Spurs among the clubs interested in signing him on a free transfer.
The Bees signed Eriksen on a six-month deal in January, after he parted ways with Inter on mutual consent towards the end of 2021, due to rules around Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators.
The Danish, with his performance since January, has shown he still has what it takes to play at the top level following the cardiac arrest he suffered during the Euro 2020 competition, with Brentford who had just managed to win six Premier League games before his arrival, winning each of the four games he’s started for them thus far.
Brentford manager, Thomas Frank has declared publicly that Eriksen’s future won’t be decided until the end of the season but that it’s ‘realistic’ to expect him to sign a new deal with the club.
However, Eriksen’s stock is rising again and according to 90min, internally Brentford are hopeful that he will extend his stay in west London, but they are now facing fierce competition.
