Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), has fired a salvo at President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari rtd., saying a man that does not know the difference between Igbo ethnic and IPOB is not worthy to be called the President of the country.

HURIWA revealed this today in a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko.

The rights group chided the president, claiming his method of keeping mute and confining himself to the comfort at the villa seems to be the best option since his recent comments are divisive.

They, however, told the president to henceforth return to his old ways and speak less because “his public speeches of late rather than give hope and faith in the unity of Nigeria, evoke old faultlines threatening to tear Nigeria apart.”

HURIWA also noted in his statement, that Buhari’s speeches have increasingly gotten more negative, bellicose, disruptive and absolutely distant from the real realities on the ground.

President Buhari was slammed by the group for not speaking about the insecurity problem in the Southeast during his interview with Arise Television on Thursday and was taunted for comparing the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, to the whole Igbo ethnic group (Ndigbo).

Recall that President Buhari had said during the interview that, “IPOB is just like a dot in a circle. Even if they want to exit, they will have no access to anywhere, referring to the group as the whole Igbo ethnic.

He reiterated that they would be talked in the language that they understand as he’s going to organise the police and the military to pursue them.

Reacting to this further, HURIWA said it was unacceptable that a blessed country like Nigeria is being ruled by an incapable President like Buhari who knows no difference between distinctive Igbo Ethnic bloc and self-determination group known as the Indigenous peoples of Biafra.

HURIWA said Buhari’s ignorance or willful forgetfulness on the fundamental conceptual chasm and distinction between a group of youthful agitators with the entire IGBO RACE is unpardonable and dangerous.
