A Nigerian economist, entrepreneur and philanthropist, Tony Onyemaechi Elumelu, has responded to a Tweep who specially begged him on microblogging and social networking platform, Twitter, to help create a consortium of investors to buy his beloved Football Club, Manchester United. The Twitter user in a tweet he posted on his twitter page, @victorpazuibuke, seeks the help of Tony Elumelu who is the chairman of United Bank for Africa, Heirs Holding and Transcorp to come and rescue his club because they have suffered for too long.

In the tweet, the concerned Manchesterr United fan said:

“Chairman @TonyOElumelu please create a consortium of investors and buy @ManUtd. Please sir we’ve suffered for too long.”

Reacting to this, the founder of Tony Elumelu Foundation via his official verified Twitter handle @TonyOElumelu, gives a pleasant response, saying he knows that Manchester United has a strong and supportive fan base, and added that even though any investor would like to own a piece of big project like that, he doubt he can cope with the global sport politics.

The tweet reads:

“lol. I know Man United has a solid fan base that is fiercely loyal to the club. Any investor will jump at an offer to own a piece of it… but global sports politics???

This is quite interesting. Isn’t it?
