The Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reacted to the claim that he arrested and detained Mallan Nasir El-Rufai in Anambra State when he came to the state for the by-election.
The former Anambra State governor shed more light on this on Monday while addressing the Arewa Joint Youth Committee.
Recall that Mallam Nasir El-Rufai had claimed that in 2013, Peter Obi, who was then the governor of the state, got him arrested and detained for 48 hours in Anambra, adding that he is now the Governor of Kaduna State, and Peter Obi is coming to Kaduna.
Reacting to the claim, the Labour Party flagbearer stated that he had no hand in El-rufai’s arrest and detention, adding that the state Commissioner of Police was responsible for it.
In his words, “The police commissioner that was there then was from Adamawa state, and the AIG was from Nassarawa. The GMD that was planning for that election was from Kano. There’s no way I could have done that. My chairman, I never asked anyone to arrest you. As Governor of Anambra State, I have the first APC best policeman in Nigeria, and he is from Kano, so where will I give the order and tell a man who lives in my house every day that I want to deal with his people, and he will say yes?”
